Peer to peer syncing

CoronaSync allows you to sync directly from PC to PC.

Starting with CoronaSync 1.4.0, peer to peer syncing is supported.

What is peer to peer syncing?

Peer to peer syncing allows you to keep your data in sync between multiple PCs without having to rely on CoronaSync servers as data repositories. This means you can have all the features of CoronaSync, while never losing or having to store your data on a machine that is not yours.

How do I enable this?

In the main CoronaSync window, there is a button at the bottom which allows you enable or disable incoming connections. These incoming connections are for other CoronaSync clients you have which want to sync peer-to-peer.

Are CoronaSync servers still used?

Yes, but in peer to peer mode, our servers only authenticate your account and account credentials. Once we’ve verified you are a valid user with access to the data you’re trying to sync, the actual data goes directly from one PC to the other. CoronaSync servers do not ever contain your data.

Why would I use this feature?

This feature is intended for those clients who require the ability the sync their data, but want the added security of knowing their data is not subject to the perils of hackers, break-ins, loss, etc.

If I sync locally can I still use the CoronaSync web portal?

Yes. When using P2P sycning, the file metadata (i.e. the directory
information) is still synced with our server. So, you can go and view that data under “My Folders” even for folders that our hosted on your own PC (and the links will work too!). What is not on our server is the files themselves.

Is this faster than using CoronaSync servers?

The way we pass sync data, we minimize traffic between your PCs, whether it’s through our servers or not. However, if you’re syncing data between PCs on your local LAN, expect it to be significantly faster.
